Just one day after the Season 2 premiere, Killing Eve has already been renewed for a third season! The BBC America show, which earned a number of award nominations for its first season, is lead by actresses Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer.
AMC made the official announcement on Monday, April 8, just hours after the first episode of Season 2 aired. Though this renewal may seem quick, they did renew the show for a second season before the first one ever aired!
However, there will be a new showrunner for the third season. While Phoebe Waller-Bridge was in charge for Season 1, Emerald Fennell took over for Season 2. Now Fennell will be passing the torch to Suzanne Heathcote, who previously worked on Fear the Walking Dead.
“We love having this show and the brilliant Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer and Fiona Shaw on our networks. Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Emerald Fennell have delivered two addictively entertaining seasons,” AMC Networks president Sarah Barnett said in a statement.
“As we did last year, we’re renewing Killing Eve right out of the gate, now with Suzanne Heathcote as lead writer, as a sign of confidence – we adore this show as much as our fans do. Killing Eve doesn’t do anything in a templated way; we love giving opportunity to three genius women to make their mark.”
Fans reacted to the exciting news on Twitter, with one fan writing, “Yessssss!!!! I started watching in a plane and binged it for 5 hours! Soooo good! Glad it will get more seasons.”
Another fan wrote, “Awesome! This show is so good!” Somebody else tweeted, “IT’S WHAT THEY DESERVE.”
This show has only been gaining momentum since it first hit the airwaves back in April 2018. In fact, it’s so hot that star Sandra Oh recently hosted Saturday Night Live for the first time. Considering she was on an even hotter show, Grey’s Anatomy. it certainly speaks to the show’s popularity.
