Over the weekend, Kelly Ripa expressed her emotions over the sudden death of her former All My Children co-star, John Callahan, with a post to social media — but she wasn’t done honoring her friend.
Kelly Ripa Remembers John Callahan
Today, on Live With Kelly and Ryan, Ripa continued to pay tribute to Callahan. The actor was once wed to Ripa’s dear pal Eva LaRue (ex-Maria, AMC; CSI: Miami), who just so happens to be her first child’s godmother.
“A very dear friend of mine for many years, for almost 30 years, passed away over the weekend,” Ripa emotionally shared with fellow host Ryan Seacrest and their show’s audience. “He was a great actor, a really good friend, one of the funniest people I’ve ever met….he was 66 years old, way too young to be taken from us.”
As you can see in the above clip, Ripa went on to compliment Callahan for being a great guy, noting to Seacrest that the two would have gotten along quite well. “[John’s] daughter [Kaya] and my daughter [Lola] are great friends,” Ripa added. “They’re the same age. I just want…Eva and Kaya to know that we are thinking of you…”
Kelly Ripa played Hayley on AMC. John Callahan played the part of Edmund Grey. The actor was born in New York. He had a massive stroke at his home in Palm Desert, California on Friday, March 27. Entertainment Hub sends sincere condolences to LaRue and her daughter and Callahan’s loved ones at this difficult time. Live With Kelly and Ryan airs weekdays in syndication. More on Soap Opera History
Spanning more than five decades, American soaps have seen the rise and fall of daytime shows. In the heyday, in the early 1980s, there were up to 13 different soap operas broadcasted. However, over the years, the number has declined. Currently, there are only four American soap operas on the air.
Bringing the Drama
The four remaining soap operas currently on the air include Days of our Lives, The Young and the Restless (YR), General Hospital (GH), and The Bold and the Beautiful (BB). Check your local listings for air times.
