Kate Middleton just took a major step forward in regards to her position in the royal family this week!
The mother of three made an appearance with Queen Elizabeth II on Tuesday, March 19, which is the first time the Duchess of Cambridge has done something with the Queen without another royal family member present.
The pair went to King’s College’s London Strand to see Bush House, a renovated part of the campus.
The Royal Family’s Twitter account documented the event, writing, “The Queen is Patron of @KingsCollegeLon – which is the 4th oldest university in England.”
Though this is Middleton’s first appearance alongside Queen Elizabeth, Meghan Markle made her first appearance with the Queen just two months after she tied the knot to Prince Harry.
Despite it taking Middleton eight years compared to Markle’s two months, there’s apparently no bad blood.
“Royal diaries are booked months, if not years, in advance and both Her Majesty and The Duchess of Cambridge have chronically busy schedules and sometimes different interests,” British etiquette expert William Hanson told Huffington Post.
“There will be no sinister reason that a joint, double-headed engagement has not happened until now.”
He continued, “The two have appeared many times in public together at various engagements, including the ‘three Queens’ visit to Fortnum and Mason in 2012, together with The Duchess of Cornwall.”
