This is Us star Justin Hartley is going to be busy soon, as the actor has just signed on as an executive producer and star of a new Netflix film based on a popular book.
Justin Hartley Moonlights For Netflix
According to Deadline, Hartley will star in The Noel Diary, a feature adaptation of the New York Times bestselling novel by Richard Paul Evans, which the streaming service recently acquired the rights to.
The 2017 novel tells the story of best-selling author Jacob Turner, who returns home on Christmas to settle his estranged mother’s estate. Things are not as expected, though, as Turner comes across his mom’s diary full of secrets from her history.
The character also meets up with a beautiful young woman on a mysterious journey of her own, and together, the two delve into the past and journey towards an unexpected future.
The movie will also star Bonnie Bedelia of Die Hard and Parenthood fame, and Treat Williams, star of Everwood and the movie musical Hair. Charles Shyer, director of both Father of the Bride movies, will helm the film.
Hartley will of course return as Kevin Pearson when the critically acclaimed NBC drama This Is Us debuts its fifth season, and we’ll likely find out if he can follow in Jack’s footsteps and be a good father, as last season ended with Madison pregnant with Kevin’s twins.
At last report, creator Dan Fogelman said there’s still no word on when production will begin, though new episodes are expected to air in 2020, and the coronavirus will be addressed in some way.
While Hartley shot to fame on This Is Us, he first came to prominence in the soap world for his work on Passions and his Daytime Emmy-winning role of Adam Newman on The Young and the Restless. Recent film roles include The Hunt, opposite Emma Roberts and Hilary Swank, and the upcoming indie film, The Exchange.
