The story surrounding Jussie Smollett’s alleged hate crime attack has taken a serious turn over the past few days.
Two Nigerian brothers were taken into custody last week on Wednesday, February 13 and were thought to be the suspects in the case, but they were released shortly after being taken in.
“Due to new evidence as a result of today’s interrogations, the individuals questioned by police in the Empire case have now been released without charging and detectives have additional investigative work to complete,” Chicago PD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said on Twitter.
According to the Chicago Police Department, following the release of the two men, the “case has in fact shifted the trajectory of the investigation.”
CNN also claims the Empire actor actually paid the two men to attack him and that the whole thing was staged.
Jussie’s attorney released a statement following reports he staged the attack.
