Sad news for fans of Jessica Campbell, best known for her role as Tammy Metzler in Election, as she shockingly passed away at the end of 2020. She was only 38.
Jessica Campbell Passed Away
According to TMZ, Campbell’s cousin confirmed the tragic news noting it was very sudden and unexpected.
Campbell had quit acting in 2002 and went on to become a successful naturopathic physician in Portland. On the day she died, Campbell’s cousin noted she had worked a normal day seeing patients at her practice and returned home to visit with her mother and aunt.
She told TMZ that Campbell went to the bathroom but never came out, and when her aunt went to check on her, she found her collapsed on the floor. EMTs were unsuccessful in reviving her.
Although Campbell had been complaining of congestion and felt like she was getting a cold, the family doesn’t believe she died of COVID, but the autopsy results are expected soon.
Playing Chris Klein’s younger sister in Election, Campbell earned critical praise, earning herself an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Debut Performance.
Her career also included playing Amy “Tuba Girl” Andrews on Freaks and Geeks, a character who would date Seth Rogan’s Ken for a couple of episodes; and playing the daughter of Glenn Close in the movie, The Safety of Objects.
Campbell leaves behind her 10-year-old son Oliver. A GoFundMe page has been created to help the family with expenses, with all funds collected directed towards meeting expenses and providing for Oliver in the future.
“A true adventurer in every sense of the word, Jessica packed a staggering amount of experiences into her tragically short lifetime,” the GoFundMe page says. “To know her is to have known true friendship.”
Freaks and Geeks creator Judd Apatow was among those donating, adding $5,000 to the cause. The fund has surpassed its $20,000 goal. Entertainment Hub sends condolences to Jessica Campbell’s family, friends, and fans during this difficult time.
