Despite battling cancer, Alex Trebek continues to be in everyone’s living room each night as the host of Jeopardy! Now, he’s giving his followers an update on his condition.
Alex Trebek Shares Update
“The one-year survival rate for [having] stage 4 pancreatic cancer patients is 18%,” Trebek reports. “I’m happy to report I’ve just reached that marker. I’d be lying to say the journey has been an easy one.
“I’ve joked with friends that the cancer won’t kill me — the chemo treatments will. There were some good days, there were moments of great pain. Days when certain bodily functions no longer functioned, and sudden massive attacks of great depression that made me wonder if it really was worth fighting on…”
Trebek says he brushed all that aside and did so quickly. “That would have been a massive betrayal of my wife and soulmate Jean, who has given her all to help me survive. It would have been a betrayal of other cancer patients who have looked to me as an inspiration and a cheerleader…and it would have been a betrayal of my faith in God…
“My oncologist tried to cheer me up the other day …” Trebek continued. “He was certain that one year from now, the two of us would be sitting in his office celebrating my second anniversary of survival. If I, no, if we, can just take it one day at a time, with a positive attitude, anything is possible. I’ll keep you posted.”
Last November, Jeopardy! contestant Dhruv Gaur didn’t know the answer to final Jeopardy but his answer was still a winner when he wrote on his screen: “What is, ‘We love you, Alex!'” Trebek said: “Oh, that’s very kind.” The moment prompted others on social media to express their warm feelings to Trebek, too. Entertainment Hub wishes Trebek all the best as he continues to battle his condition. Jeopardy! airs weeknights in syndication. Check local listings for airtimes.
