Jeff Goldblum, actor and jazz musician, most famous for his work in the films The Fly, Jurassic Park, and Independence Day, as well as their respective sequels, is set to celebrate a very special milestone.
And that’s because he was born on October 22, 1952, in West Homestead, Pennsylvania, which means that this much-beloved performer is turning 68 years old today! Goldblum honed his acting craft at the renowned Neighborhood Playhouse under the auspice of Sanford Meisner.
He made his Broadway debut in the Tony Award-winning musical Two Gentlemen of Verona (1971) and four years later, he appeared in his first film, Death Wish. He had small roles in the made-for-TV movie Columbo: A Case of Immunity and feature films like California Split (1974), Nashville (1975), Special Delivery (1976), and Woody Allen’s 1977 effort Annie Hall.
More substantial roles in films like Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), The Big Chill (1983), and Into the Night (1985) followed, and Goldblum finally won critical acclaim for his work in the David Cronenberg thriller The Fly (1986).
In 1993, Goldblum was hired to portray a character for which he has probably become best known: Jurassic Park’s (1993) Dr. Ian Malcolm. Goldblum would go on to reprise the role in two subsequent sequels – The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2016).
Goldblum’s other acting credits include the films Independence Day (1996) and Independence Day: Resurgence (2016), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Thor: Ragnarok (2017), and multiple films helmed by Wes Anderson. Chief among them, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004), The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014), and the animated picture Isle of Dogs (2018).
Goldblum’s resume is also filled with an extensive list of television roles including a two-year stint on Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and a plethora of voice-over roles in animated fare like King of the Hill, Crank Yankers, and The Simpsons.
In 1996, Goldblum and Tikki Goldberg, were nominated for Best Short Film, Live Action Oscar for their short, Little Surprises, in which Goldblum also directed and could count amongst its cast Julie Harris, Kelly Preston, and Rod Steiger.
Since the mid-’90s, Goldblum has been the spokesperson/lead commercial actor for several products including iMac and iBook (for Apple), Toyota vehicles, Proctor & Gamble’s face cream, and Apartments.com. In 2018, his jazz band – Jeff Goldblum and the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra, released their first album, The Capitol Studios Sessions.
Goldblum has been married to Emilie Livingston since November 8, 2014. The couple has two children together: sons Charlie Ocean (born July 4, 2015) and River Joe (born in 2017).
Entertainment Hub would like to wish Jeff Goldblum a very happy birthday and many more.
