Jeff Bridges, the Academy Award-winning actor most famous for appearing in the film The Big Lebowski, took to Twitter on Monday and announced that he has been diagnosed with lymphoma.
Jeff Bridges’ Message To His Fans
Bridges’ began his post with a nod to the character he portrayed in the aforementioned feature. “As the Dude would say…New S**T has come to light.” His message went on to explain that, “I have been diagnosed with Lymphoma. Although it is a serious disease, I feel fortunate that I have a great team of doctors and the prognosis is good.”
Though Bridges did not provide further details – including the specific type of Lymphoma that he is suffering from – he did reveal that he would be starting treatment and he promised to keep his fans updated.
In a follow-up tweet, Bridges thanked his family and friends for the support that they had shown him in addition to their prayers and well wishes. He also took the opportunity to implore his followers to vote in the upcoming Presidential election insisting, “we are all this together.”
According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the two main kinds of lymphoma are Hodgkin and Non-Hodgkin. The former is categorized as cancer that spreads in an orderly manner from one group of lymph nodes to another. The latter is a type that spreads through the lymphatic system in a non-orderly manner.
Bridges enviable Hollywood career stretches over three decades and encompasses well over 70 features including The Company She Keeps (his debut picture), The Last Picture Show, The Mirror Has Two Faces with Barbra Streisand, Crazy Heart (which netted him his Best Actor Oscar), Bad Times at the El Royale and, of course, the Coen Brothers 1999 effort The Big Lebowski.
Bridges is currently in production for the miniseries The Old Man in which he stars and serves as an Executive Producer. A statement released by FX, Touchstone Television, Hulu, and FXP (Bridges producing partners in the upcoming project) reads, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jeff and his family during this challenging time and they have our love and support.
“We wish him a safe and full recovery. And, as Jeff always says, ‘We are in this together.’ Jeff, we are all in this together with you.” Entertainment Hub joins everyone in wishing Jeff Bridges a full and speedy recovery.
I’m profoundly grateful for the love and support from my family and friends.
Thank you for your prayers and well wishes. And, while I have you, please remember to go vote. Because we are all in this together. https://t.co/6sAU4MYixl
