Jason Ritter (Parenthood; Girls) returns to series television as the title character in the uplifting drama Kevin (Probably) Saves the World, which debuts Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 10 p.m. on ABC.

Ritter plays Kevin, an extremely affable, but also selfish young man who’s down and out and goes to live with his widowed twin sister and her daughter. After he comes into contact with a mysterious meteor, his life changes forever!

Look! Up In The Sky!
After Kevin’s encounter with the space rock, he’s visited by a woman named Yvette whom only he can see. She informs Kevin he’s been chosen to help better the world. At first he doesn’t believe her, but soon changes his mind after Yvette is able to save Kevin from a near-death experience.

“I love how complicated Kevin is,” Ritter says. “He starts off in a very dark place and there’s room for him to and change. I was also intrigued by the challenge of having to do a bunch of scenes with someone no one else can see.”

Ritter adds that the message of the show mixed with a great character and moments that are moving and funny made the series irresistible.

“It checked all these boxes that I didn’t even know I was looking to check. I thought, ‘I love this role so much, I just hope they let me do it!'”

Hollywood East
The series is set in Texas where the pilot was filmed, but the show will be produced in Atlanta where a lot of television production is taking place. “I saw a shirt that said ‘Y’allywood,'” Ritter chuckles. “It’s mind-boggling to see how many shows are being shot here.”

Kevin’s Future
Time will tell if other characters will eventually be able to see Yvette, but Ritter notes that there are a total of 35 meteors out there so perhaps he’ll encounter some other individuals who have been selected to help save the world!

One of the messages of the show is to have hope especially during challenging times. “It’s easy to be optimistic when everything’s going right,” Ritter says. “When your experience is not matching up to what you’re visualizing is when things start to get difficult.”

Kevin (Probably) Saves the World airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on ABC starting Oct. 3.
