Shannen Doherty revealed earlier this week that her cancer has returned, and she’s currently battling stage 4 of the disease. Now, one of her former Beverly Hills 90210 co-stars is reaching out with some positive words.
Shannen Doherty Gets Support
Jason Priestly, who played Brandon, the twin brother of Doherty’s Brenda, on Beverly Hills 90210, recently told People, “I reached out to her yesterday when the news broke. She’s overwhelmed with well wishers and with people reaching out to her. I haven’t heard back from her yet, but I’m sure that I will very soon.”
Last year, the two actors and other cast members from the original series reunited for BH 90210, a scripted series in which the actors played heightened versions of themselves as they decided whether or not to revive Beverly Hills 90210. The show received lots of publicity and had an initial impressive showing, but ratings declined. It was not renewed.
“Shannen was a big part of my life,” said Priestly. “Shannen and I will always have a bond that is very meaningful. I’m very heartbroken about the news and I wish her and her family the best in this very difficult time.”
Going Public
Three years after Doherty announced that she was in remission, she shared that she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer.
“So my cancer came back, and that’s why I’m here,” Doherty said during an interview with ABC News that aired on Good Morning America. “I don’t think I’ve processed it. It’s a bitter pill to swallow in a lot of ways. I definitely have days where I say, ‘Why me?’ And then I go, well, ‘Why not me? Who else? Who else besides me deserves this?’ None of us do.”
Doherty began her career as a child actress, appearing in such TV series as Father Murphy, Little House on the Prairie, and Our House with Deidre Hall. Entertainment Hub joins Priestly in wishing Doherty the best during this challenging time.
