To shake things up this year, the annual MTV awards was changed to the MTV Movie & TV Awards: Greatest of All Time and when it came to picking the winner for Best Scream Queen, there was really only one actress who could win —Jamie Lee Curtis.
Scream actress Neve Campbell, herself a notable Scream Queen, presented the award virtually to Curtis, talking about her iconic memorable film debut as Laurie Strode in 1978’s original Halloween, and how that changed the horror genre forever.
On her Instagram, Curtis posted “In case you missed it….My partner #MichaelMyers” and shared a video of her accepting the award.
“For me, the greatest partnership and the only reason I’m standing here today, is my partnership with my friend, Michael,” Curtis said, before introducing the masked maniac to join her outside.
The Halloween killer then comes out from behind a tree and has to be convinced by the actress to join her, with Curtis assuring him, “they’re not scary, they love you.”
She then introduces Michael Myers, who she calls her “friend and often foe,” and thanks the audience who she notes she wouldn’t be here without — and then boops the knife-wielding Myers on the nose, à la Schitt’s Creek’s Alexis, and says, “and I certainly wouldn’t be here without you.”
Curtis hands Myers the trophy and assures the fans that they’ve both had COVID tests — plus he’s wearing the “greatest mask ever” — and she dons a more traditional pandemic mask and puts her arm around her co-star.
“From the bottom of our hearts, we both thank you so, so much for this incredible honor and hope you enjoy the next two movies — Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends,” Curtis says, although Myers doesn’t seem to like the sound of those two titles.
The masked Myers is speechless about the award, naturally, and Curtis comments that he doesn’t have to say anything. When it’s all over, she says, “that was okay,” and he responds, “yeah,” shocking both of them with his voice! It’s a ton of fun to see — which you can do for yourself below.
