Throughout the 1970s, comic actor Tim Conway appeared in a variety of sketches as a recurring player and later, a series regular on The Carol Burnett Show. Now, there’s news about the funnyman that’s breaking hearts.
Conway, 85, has passed away. Born on December 15, 1933 in Willoughby, Ohio, Conway died on Tuesday, May 14 at 8:45 a.m. after battling dementia, Conway’s rep, Howard Bragman, confirmed to People.
The actor leaves behind his wife to whom he was married for 35 years, seven children (including a step-daughter), and two granddaughters.
The family requests that instead of flowers, donations be made to The Lou Ruvo Brain Center at the Cleveland Clinic in Las Vegas.
Conway’s most memorable characters on The Carol Burnett Show were Mr. Tudball, the exasperated boss of Carol Burnett’s bored and frustrating Mrs. Wiggins; Mickey Hart, Ed Higgins’ (the late Harvey Korman), pal and hardware store righthand man; and an elderly dentist who frightened and entertained Korman’s patient character.
The actor won Emmys for his work on The Carol Burnett Show in 1973, 1977, and 1978 and a Golden Globe in 1976. Conway also won Emmys for Coach in 1996 and for 30 Rock in 2008.
He penned his memoir, which was released in 2013, titled What’s So Funny? My Hilarious Life. Conway also headlined two shows that ran one season each, in 1970 and a variety show from 1980-81.
Two members of the actor’s family — wife Charlene and daughter Kelly — had been in conflict over Conway’s care last August. In March, Charlene was given conservatorship of Conway.
Entertainment Hub sends condolences to Conway’s family, friends, colleagues, and fans at this difficult time.
