The Handmaid’s Tale is never easy to watch, but some of the most difficult scenes to watch came when Emily (Alexis Bledel) was sent out to the Colonies to die — and it was harrowing to see.
The Colonies is where Handmaids — and other people who must be punished for their crimes — are sent to dig holes in land that has been poisoned due to chemicals and radioactivity. The prisoners ultimately just drop dead due to the chemicals they’re ingesting.
