Grey’s Anatomy star Jake Borelli, who plays loveable Dr. Levi Schmitt, is temporarily trading medicine for politics in the romantic comedy, The Thing About Harry — a film for Freeform.
Jake Borelli In Rom-Com
The same-sex love story tells the tale of two high school enemies — Sam (played by Borelli), who is an out and proud gay man, who ends up sharing a ride with uber-jock Harry on their way to a friend’s engagement party on Valentine’s Day, back in their mutual hometown.
“I just had a month off [from Grey’s] and shot [this] movie,” Borelli told Entertainment Hub at an ABC TV critics party in Pasadena, CA. “It’s Freeform’s first-ever gay ‘rom-com.’ It’s about a 20-something queer guy in Chicago looking for love and trying to hang onto it!
Grey’s Anatomy Star Branches Out
“I play Sam who’s looking for love,” Borelli continues. “He’s into politics and changing the world.” Sam hasn’t always had the best luck in love so, when he takes a road trip with Harry, he’s initially not expecting much — especially before he finds out that Harry has come out himself! “It’s a queer When Harry Met Sally. Niko Terho plays Harry. He’s a New York-based actor from Barbados, and we had a wonderful time shooting in Chicago.”
The road trip can’t be done quickly so the two end up spending a night in the same roadside motel. There, Harry and Sam begin to develop a deep friendship. At first, neither is admitting a potential romance could be brewing. Can this trip to their hometown change their lives?
The film is written and directed by Peter Paige (Good Trouble, Queer As Folk). Paige also appears in the film as the character Casey. Karamo Brown (Dancing With the Stars) plays Paul. Britt Baron (GLOW) plays Stasia. The Thing About Harry premieres Saturday, February 15 at 8 p.m. ET. The movie is part of Freeform’s Love However the FF You Want campaign.
