On Thursday, some Grey’s Anatomy staffers went through turmoil while matching the past with the present. The hour left no doubt ABC was at a turning point as episode 5 of season 14 aired.
There were flashbacks aplenty. While in Iraq in 2007, Owen (Kevin McKidd), Riggs (Martin Henderson), Megan (Abigail Spencer), and Teddy (Kim Raver) dealt with their fair share of gore and lots of personal drama. The biggest aspect of life in the army for these doctors meant on-the-fly operations that saved some lives, yet not others.
Owen Hunt was in charge while his sister was trying to get a hard-earned promotion to become a flight surgeon. No dice. A guy with less experience prevailed.
Meanwhile, Riggs made an abrupt proposal to Megan when she found another woman’s necklace on the floor of his quarters. He used the stolen jewelry as his engagement ring replacement.
Teddy busted Riggs, who made the confession to his intended, inspiring her to make a run for it on a helicopter with one of her patients who happened to be the reason she was kidnapped for a decade. Talk about a bad move!
Then, in the present, Megan was happy again and about to rejoin her child, who had been returned to her from Iraq, and Riggs, now forgiven, in Los Angeles. Her brother was having a problem with his sister moving so far away so he joined her on a road trip from Seattle to the LA coast to try and dissuade her from going.
The ride turned into a moving matter, mostly in an angry way as the siblings bickered about what had happened to their relationship. This led Megan to inspire Owen to find his own happiness as she had done and he took that to heart, breaking free of Amelia (Catarina Scorsone) once he returned home.
Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays on ABC at 8 p.m., ET.
