As Grey’s Anatomy prepares to start shooting Season 17, the show announced some interesting casting news, which could mean some romantic days ahead for Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo).

According to TVLine, Richard Flood, who appeared on the show as head of pediatric surgery Dr. Cormac Hayes last season, has been upped to a series regular, and it’s rumored that he and Dr. Grey will become more romantically involved.
Last season, the doctors butted heads at times, but the sexual tension between the two widowers was apparent. And Cristina sent Meredith a text boasting that Dr. Flood was the special “package” she sent for her. Dr. Grey eventually said yes when Dr. Hayes asked her out.
Of course, Meredith is still connected to ex-boyfriend Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) and is torn between which man is best for her. Flood being promoted to a regular maybe ups the odds on it being him!
Another guest star becoming a regular this season is Anthony Hill, who played Dr. Winston Ndugu, an old colleague of Maggie’s (Kelly McCreary), who she reconnected with at a medical conference last season. Might we see this new romance move forward as well? Are things really over for her and Jackson (Jesse Williams)?
Meanwhile, Stefania Spampinato, who plays Dr. Carina DeLuca, is changing timeslots by becoming a series regular on Grey’s Anatomy’s sister show, Station 19. The character, who first came aboard Greys in Season 14 as Andrew’s sister, has a romantic relationship with Station 19’s Maya Bishop (Danielle Savre) and made about a dozen appearances on the show last year.
“I am so excited to add Anthony, Stefania and Richard to the Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy families,” Krista Vernoff, who oversees both shows, said in a statement. “They are huge talents who made a big impact with our fans, with our casts and with our writers, who are eager to write more for them.”
