Grey’s Anatomy News: Debbie Allen Finally Returns To ABC Studio Lot

Grey’s Anatomy doesn’t appear to be back filming just yet, however, Debbie Allen, who wears many hats on the ABC medical drama is back on the show’s lot in preparation for a return to shooting.

“I’m back on the set of @GreysABC! 😷,” Allen posted along with a video of her driving onto the lot, greeting a security guard, and explaining she’s there to get a COVID-19 test so that she’ll be clear to resume working.

“We are going into the stage. We are going to Grey’s Anatomy. We’re driving onto the lot. There’s new protocols in place. We’re going to find out what I have to do to get in and be safe,” she narrated a video she included (which you can watch below).

Allen checks with security in the video, clarifying that “we’re almost back” before asking if she can park in her parking space, which she does. “I’m going to go in and take my COVID test…” Allen adds before ending the video.

Allen first game to Grey’s Anatomy in 2011 when she was cast as Dr. Catherine Avery. Over time, Allen became an executive producer on the show and has directed over 20 episodes of it, too. Catherine’s been involved in many medical cases, perhaps none more personal than the one that afflicted her husband Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens), who began showing signs of Alzheimer’s last season. It turned out that Richard was suffering from cobalt poisoning courtesy of a hip transplant that he’d had three years earlier. The hip was replaced and Richard’s symptoms subsided.

Grey’s shoots on the same lot as ABC’s daytime medical-themed soap General Hospital. Allen’s co-star, Chandra Wilson (Dr. Miranda Bailey) doesn’t have far to go when she’s guested on the daytime soap. Allen is perhaps best known for her role(s) as Lydia in the film version and TV series Fame. Grey’s Anatomy is set to return this fall on ABC for Season 17.
