Candace Cameron Bure became a household name courtesy of her role as D.J. on family feel-good series Full House and its more recent revival, Fuller House. However, her first role on TV was the recurring part of Megan White on the critically acclaimed medical drama St. Elsewhere.

“Throwback to my first television series role,” Bure posted on Instagram. “I played Megan, Dr. Peter White’s daughter on St. Elsewhere for 5 episodes. I was even in a scene with Denzel Washington 🤯 and didn’t realize it until I was in my 30’s 🤓.”
The NBC series ran from 1982-88. The late Karen Landry played Peter’s wife, Myra. While the Tanner family on Full House was filled with whimsy and laughter, there was little joy in the White home on St. Elsewhere.
Peter White wasn’t respected as a doctor by his colleagues and his philandering ways made him less than an ideal family man. Myra kicked Peter out of their home due to his behavior. He relied on prescription pills to get through the day, drove drunk, and had promiscuous sex. Later, Peter was able to up his game as a doctor, but after getting caught in some shady activity, the state medical board took away his license to prescribe pills for two years.

Dr. Westphall kicked Peter out of the residency program at St. Eligius after he was charged with rape. However, he was forced to let him back in after Peter was acquitted. Westphall made sure Peter had little to no contact with anyone he could hurt.
Nurse Shirley Daniels (Ellen Bry) had had enough of Peter getting away with his crimes. She fatally shot him — appropriately in the morgue, after getting Peter to admit his crimes, though he maintained his innocence on others.
Bure had only five episodes and her character left the canvas prior to Peter’s full descent. She had a few more guest spots on shows including Punky Brewster and Who’s The Boss before Full House came along in 1987.
