Game of Thrones is known for its battles and violence, but it’s also known for its array of very complicated relationships. From arranged marriages to relationships involving incest to both emotional and physical abuse, very few relationships in Westeros are loving and healthy.
Though there are many bad relationships on GOT, here are five of the worst couples we wanted to end right as they started.
5. Lysa Arryn & Petyr Baelish
We can all agree Lysa Arryn was a psycho who was jealous of her sister, Catelyn Stark. All Lysa wanted was for Petyr Baelish to love her, but he was only ever interested in Catelyn. In fact, her love for Petyr is ultimately what gets her killed…by him. If she hadn’t been so crazy and threatened to kill Sansa, maybe she’d still be alive!
4. Daenerys Targaryen & Daario Naharis
Let’s forget Daenerys Targaryen ever had a romance with Daario Naharis, OK? Yes, Daario was very attractive and Dany hadn’t been with a man since Khal Drogo died, but Daario wasn’t the answer. It was obvious from the beginning that Dany only wanted to be with him because he was useful to her and disposed of him when he no longer was.
3. Joffrey Baratheon & Sansa Stark
Sansa Stark really has no luck when it’s come to men in her life. The eldest Stark daughter was arranged to marry Joffrey Baratheon back in Season 1, but their setup only led to Joffrey ordering her father, Ned Stark, to be beheaded.
Not to mention, Joffrey was verbally abusive towards Sansa and left her with a great amount of trauma. At least she never had to marry him and she got to watch him die a miserable death.
2. Cersei & Jaime Lannister
Speaking of Joffrey, his biological parents weren’t any better. We just have one word for you — incest. Cersei and Jaime were disgusting right from the start, mostly because they’re twins for crying out loud! But, incest aside, they also had an abusive relationship that wasn’t healthy at all — for either of them.
1. Ramsay Bolton & Sansa Stark
Sansa’s arranged marriage to Ramsay Bolton was one of the worst things to ever happen to her. Not only did Sansa really have no say in the matter, Ramsay raped her and was very abusive towards her. Luckily, thanks to Theon, Sansa was able to escape and eventually got her revenge on Ramsay.
