Ron Cephas Jones has been working in Hollywood for quite some time, but he’s currently best known for making everyone cry as William Hill on This Is Us. Though he’s — spoiler alert! — no longer alive on the show, he still appears in newly created flashbacks to tug on our heartstrings.

From his first television show to his very successful daughter, here are five fast facts you need to know about This Is Us star Ron Cephas Jones!

Theater Veteran
Though Jones has worked in both TV and movies over the years, he’s really a theater veteran at heart. He has appeared as Richard III and done many Off-Broadway shows. He was in the 2014 Broadway production of Of Mice and Men. He’s part of the LAByrinth Theater Company, where he worked with the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.

First Show
Like many other actors, Jones’ first television role came in 1996 on an episode of Law & Order, where he played Frank Doyle. He actually went back on Law & Order in 1997 and played a different character — this time named Roland Books.

Awards Machine
Jones snagged the role of William Hill on This Is Us back in 2016 and ever since he’s been racking up award nominations left and right! Though he’s not on the show very much, Jones has managed to get three consecutive Emmy nominations and he won for Best Guest Actor in a Drama Series in 2018.

When He’s Not Acting…
Though he’s still very passionate about his work, like his This Is Us character, Jones is also very passionate about poetry. He writes poetry and shared his work at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe in New York City back in the ‘90s.

Getting Personal
Jones is married to a singer named Kim Lesley and they have one daughter together named Jasmine Cephas Jones. She is an actress herself, who played the original roles of Maria Reynolds and Peggy Schuyler Van Rensselaer in the Broadway production of Hamilton! She even won a Grammy as part of the original cast recording for Hamilton.
