Chrissy Metz is one of the hottest television stars in the world thanks to her role as Kate Pearson on This Is Us and the brand new movie, Breakthrough, out, but life hasn’t always been easy for the star.
Not only has she faced her fair share of rejection, but she has also gone through some major life changes. Here are five fast facts you need to know about the actress!
1. Life Abroad
Metz was born in Florida, but she actually spent a lot of her life living in Japan! She and her family moved halfway across the world because her father was in the Navy. In fact, they lived in Japan for eight years.
2. Contract goals
Metz’s character in This Is Us struggles with her weight and it is a major part of her storyline, which is why it’s a part of her contract to actually lose weight. According to the actress, when she signed on for the role of Kate, she did so knowing that she’d have to lose weight if the character ends up losing weight.
3. It Was In the Stars
While many actors go through hundreds of auditions before gaining any traction, Metz actually fell into acting. It all started when she brought her 14-year-old sister to an open casting call. A woman at the audition ended up encouraging Metz to also audition, and it led to her moving out to Los Angeles to meet with agents. The rest is history!
4. Searching For Pennies
Though Metz had snagged a few roles prior to being cast on This Is Us — most notably in American Horror Story — she was really struggling before landing the role of Kate Pearson. In fact, she had less than one dollar in her bank account when she got the call about getting the part.
5. Next Kelly Clarkson?
Believe it or not, Metz actually auditioned for American Idol back in 2007. She didn’t end up making it, but at least she can still sing on This Is Us! Not a bad trade off indeed!
