James Roday is currently starring as Gary Mendez on the popular ABC drama, A Million Little Things, but he’s been working in Hollywood since the ‘90s. Between television and movies, the 43-year-old has probably been in something you’ve seen over the years.
From his actual last name to his television breakout role, here are five fast facts you must know about James Roday!
First Movie
His first movie was called Coming Soon back in 1999. He starred in the movie alongside Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Gaby Hoffmann (Transparent, Girls), and a very young Ashton Kutcher (That 70s Show, Two and A Half Men)!
What’s In A Name?
Roday grew up as James Rodriguez, but there’s a very good reason why he changed it. He was actually forced to change his last name when he was 22 because there was another “James Rodriguez” already registered in the Screen Actors Guild.
Breakout Role
His breakout role came when he got the part of Shawn Spencer on the show Psych with former The West Wing star Dulé Hill. Roday was on the show from 2006 to 2014 and was even nominated for a Satellite Award for Best Actor in a Series, Comedy, or Musical.
Work and Play
While starring on Psych, Roday began dating his co-star, Maggie Lawson, who played Jules O’Hara. They started dating in 2006 but sadly the two actors decided to call it quits in 2013.
Director Roday
Along with being an actor and a writer, Roday is also an accomplished director. He directed a number of episodes of Psych, but he’s also directed episodes of Rosewood and of the popular medical drama, The Resident.
