June Osborne is the main protagonist in The Handmaid’s Tale. June is forced to become a Handmaid and live with the Waterfords, a family that is not her own. Though she’s forced into a horrific life, June is determined to start a revolution and overthrow Gilead once and for all.

Past Life
Before Gilead, June was a book editor and worked in the Boston area. She loved her job and was good at it, but her mother wasn’t happy with her career choice.
Best Friend
June met her best friend, Moria, while they were both in college. They became close very fast and remained close after they were forced to become Handmaids. Now that Moira is in Canada, she’s become close with June’s husband, Luke.
Caught In An Affair
June met her husband, Luke, while he was still married to somebody else. In fact, they started having an affair while he was married, but Luke decides to leave his wife for June.
Almost Baby-napped
After Luke and June got married, they got pregnant with their daughter, Hannah. At this point in time, many women were having a hard time getting pregnant, so somebody actually tried to steal Hannah from the hospital after she was born. Thankfully, they were able to save her.
Second Daughter
June began an affair with Nick Blaine after becoming a Handmaid and got pregnant with her second child, a baby girl. Though June initially wanted to name her daughter Holly, after her mother, she decided to name her Nichole, which is the name Serena Waterford had picked out for her.
