Ice-T is currently starring as Fin Tutuola on Law & Order: SVU and has had an amazing career along with a wife and kids, but his life has not been easy. In fact, the rapper has been through more in his lifetime than most.
From losing both of his parents at a young age to his stint in the army, here are five fast facts about the actor, the legend that is Law & Order: SVU’s Ice-T!
In the Beginning
Born Tracy Lauren Marrow, his mother sadly passed away from a heart attack when he was in the third grade. He was then raised by his father, but he also tragically passed away from a heart attack when Ice was only 12 years old. He was taken care of by aunt and later by another aunt.
Military Man
When his oldest daughter was born in 1977, Ice joined the military and served a two-year tour in the 25th Infantry Division. He was honorably discharged in December 1979.
Life of Crime
When he was a teenager, he started stealing car stereos to make enough money to support his pregnant girlfriend at the time. Then, after his time in the military, he started to rob banks. It wasn’t until his friends were arrested that he decided to turn his life around.
Award Winner
Ice won his first Grammy Award back in 1991 for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for the song Back on the Block. He won the award alongside Quincy Jones and Ray Charles.
Facing Reality
Playing Fin since Season 2 of Law & Order: SVU isn’t the only thing that keeps this guy busy! Ice-T has been doing reality series since 2006, first with Ice-T’s Rap School and in 2011 Ice Loves Coco premiered, which is about his life with his wife since 2002, swimsuit model Nicole “Coco” Austin. It lasted a few years. Their daughter Chanel Nicole Marrow was born in 2015.
