Elisabeth Moss is currently the star of The Handmaid’s Tale, an award-winning show that is returning for its third season in June. Though she’s been a part of some major television shows, there’s still a lot to learn about this actress.
Prior to her taking on the role of June Osborne, we’d seen her grow up in front of our eyes on television — and from her relationship history to her religion, here are five fast facts you might not already know about Elisabeth Moss.
SNL Marriage
Many people often forget that Moss was actually married to former Saturday Night Live star Fred Armisen in 2009. Unfortunately, however, they quickly decided to split in 2010.
Freedom of Religion
Moss is a Scientologist and was actually raised in the church. Usually, people come into the church later in life, but both of her parents are also Scientologists. She has defended her choice of religion a few different times, though she mostly stays quiet about her beliefs.
Wannabe Ballerina
Before becoming an award-winning actress, Moss was a very dedicated dancer. In fact, she trained to become a ballerina for over 10 years but ultimately decided to stop in order to pursue acting.
Delayed Emmy
Moss finally won an Emmy for her role in The Handmaid’s Tale back in 2017, which came as a shock to people who have followed her career for many years. In fact, Moss never won an Emmy for her incredible performance as Peggy Olson on Mad Men, a character she played for seven seasons.
Breakout Role
Moss has been a part of some incredible television shows, but her breakout role came when she landed the part of Zoey Bartlet, the president’s youngest daughter, on The West Wing in 1999. Of course, Picket Fences fans loved her as Cynthia back in the mid-1990s. She also was Lucky, circa age 6, in Jackie Collins’ mini-series, Lucky Chances.
