Most fans know Alexis Bledel thanks to her great work in Gilmore Girls or Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Though she’s probably most famous for those roles, she’s established herself as a great dramatic actor thanks to her performance as Emily in The Handmaid’s Tale.
As Season 3 of the show is getting ready to launch in June, here are five facts you should know about Alexis Bledel.
Latina Heritage
Though she doesn’t necessarily look Latina, Bledel’s first language was actually Spanish. Her father is from Argentina and her mother grew up in Mexico. In fact, Bledel didn’t learn English until she started school.
Backstage Romance
Most people know Bledel dated her Gilmore Girls co-star Milo Ventimiglia (Jack, This Is Us) for a few years, but she actually ended up marrying another one of her former co-stars! While guest starring on Mad Men, the 37-year-old met Vincent Kartheiser, who played Pete Campbell. The couple got married in 2014 and have a son.
First Role
If you can believe it, Bledel’s first ever audition was for her role as Rory Gilmore on Gilmore Girls. She, of course, scored her first time at bat and won the role. It is what propelled her into being the actress she is today.
She Hates What?!
Despite her character on Gilmore Girls drinking coffee every second of every day, Bledel actually hates the taste of it. While shooting those scenes for the show, she’d actually drink soda instead.
Emmy-winner
Though Bledel has been working in the industry for many years, she won her very first Emmy for her role as Emily on The Handmaid’s Tale. She won the Primetime Emmy Award in 2017 for Outstanding Guest Star in a Drama.
