Peter Dinklage is one of the most iconic actors working at the moment, mostly thanks to being beloved as Tyrion Lannister on Game of Thrones. But, despite his major role on the HBO show, Dinklage had quite the career and life already.
After all, he was already well known from his roles in Elf, The Station Agent, and Death at a Funeral. From his interesting upbringing in New Jersey to his role in casting a major person on Game of Thrones, here are five fast facts about Peter Dinklage!
Near the Boss
Dinklage grew up right next door to Bruce Springsteen’s manager in Brookside, New Jersey! Springsteen regularly spent time just one house away from Dinklage while he was growing up.
Punk Rocker
Before becoming an actor, Dinklage was actually in a band! He was a member of a punk-rock-rap band called Whizzy, and they played a number of cool venues in New York and around the east coast.
No Audition
While many of the other Game of Thrones stars had to audition for their roles several times, Dinklage never once had to audition. In fact, George R.R. Martin knew he wanted Dinklage to play Tyrion Lannister from the very beginning.
Casting Cersei
Dinklage was a very close friend of Lena Headey’s before she landed the role of Cersei Lannister on Game of Thrones. In fact, Dinklage actually recommended Headey for the role and is a big reason why she was cast in the first place.
Only Winner
Though Game of Thrones has won a number of Emmys since it started back in 2011, Dinklage is actually the only actor to ever win an Emmy for the show. While other stars like Kit Harington, Headey, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Maisie Williams, and Emilia Clarke have been nominated, he is the only one to have won.
