Jason Mesnick was The Bachelor 10 years ago, but he’s definitely still considered a fan-favorite. Though his season was one of the more dramatic ones, he’s proven himself to be a stable family man.
From where he was born and raised to his life before Bachelor Nation, here are five fast facts you need to know about Jason Mesnick.
In the Beginning
Mesnick was born and raised in the Seattle suburb of Kirkland, Washington. He graduated from Lake Washington High School and also attended the University of Washington. He currently lives in Washington with his family and has always considered it home.
Romantic Past
Prior to competing on DeAnna Pappas’s season of The Bachelorette, Mesnick had been married before. He was married to Hilary Buckholz in 2003, but they ended up getting divorced in 2007. They had a son together in 2005 named Ty, who Mesnick talked about while on The Bachelorette.
Bachelor Switch-Up
After coming in second place on The Bachelorette, Mesnick was cast as The Bachelor. He ended up picking Melissa Rycroft on the season finale, but after the show stopped filming, he decided he was actually in love with his runner-up, Molly Malaney. Mesnick broke up with Rycroft and asked Malaney for another chance, which she accepted.
Televised Wedding
Mesnick and Malaney dated for less than a year before he proposed to her in October 2009 in New Zealand. The couple then officially tied the knot in February 2010 in California. The wedding was televised that March with a two-hour special called The Bachelor: Jason and Molly’s Wedding.
Rare Bachelor
Mesnick is still just one of three Bachelors who has married a woman from his season. Mesnick was the first to do it, despite the fact he didn’t end up marrying his first choice. Sean Lowe married the woman he got engaged to, Catherine Giudici, and Arie Luyendyk Jr. ended up pulling a Mesnick and married his runner-up, Lauren Burnham.
