Daenerys Targaryen is one of the most beloved characters on Game of Thrones. With her dragons, her white-blonde hair, her vast army, and her birthright, Dany thought she had everything she needed to rule Westeros and reclaim the Iron Throne for her family — and herself.
Here are five fast facts about Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, the Unburnt, Queen of Meereen, Queen of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons.
Last Name History
Daenerys sometimes refers to herself as Daenerys Stormborn, but many people don’t know why she has that name. Apparently, she was born amidst a very powerful storm which destroyed all the ships in her family’s fleet….AKA Stormborn!
Mother of Dragons
Though she never actually gave birth to her three dragons — because let’s be honest, that would be weird — she did bring them to life when nobody thought it’d be possible. She and her three dragon eggs went into a fire and she later emerged from the ashes holding her three baby dragons.
Barren
Daenerys turned to witch Mirri Max Duur to help save a dying Khal Drogo when Daenerys was pregnant. Her son, named Rhaego, didn’t survive his birth in exchange for his dad’s life, which turned out to be no real life. The witch then told her she’d never have children — but should Dany really believe this woman who destroyed her life?
Favorite Child
It can be difficult to tell her dragons apart sometimes, but it does seem like Dany has her favorite. In fact, she is only ever seen riding Drogon. Of course, she now only has two since Viserion was killed (though he became part of the undead briefly by the Night King).
Not The Heir
Dany has only just found out that she is not the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. It is actually her lover, Jon Snow (who also happens to be her nephew), who is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne as he is the son of her deceased brother, Rhaegar Targaryen.
