James Tupper has been in a number of movies and shows throughout the years, but he currently stars as Reese Witherspoon’s ex-husband, Nathan Carlson, on HBO’s hit show Big Little Lies.
Though his character didn’t have a lot to do back in Season 1, he’s definitely more involved in the storyline this season. From what James Tupper did after high school to his time on Grey’s Anatomy, here are five fast facts you need to know about the Big Little Lies actor!
In the Beginning
Tupper was born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, which is a small town of fewer than 70,000 people. While he was growing up, Tupper would attend a church camp every summer in Berwick, Nova Scotia called Berwick Camp.
Out To Africa
After high school, Tupper decided to not attend college right away and he instead chose to move to Africa! He moved to Kenya where he worked on a coffee farm and even learned to speak Swahili. He eventually attended Concordia University in Montreal and then got his master’s degree from Rutgers University.
Paging Dr. Perkins
Like many great actors, Tupper once starred on Grey’s Anatomy! He played Dr. Andrew Perkins, a trauma counselor who was brought in to help the doctors following the horrible hospital shooting. Tupper was on the show for seven episodes from 2010 to 2011.
Looking For Revenge
Following his time on Grey’s Anatomy, Tupper was cast on the ABC show Revenge. He played the character of David Clarke. It was a recurring role for the first three seasons of the show. He was then made a series regular for Season 4.
Getting Personal
Tupper recently split from his longtime partner, actress Anne Heche, in 2018. The couple first started dating back in August 2007 after they met on the set of the television show, Men in Trees. They also have a son together named Atlas, who was born in March 2009.
