Romany Malco, who is a talented rapper, an actor, and a music producer, is currently one of the stars in the new ABC drama, A Million Little Things. Malco plays Rome Howard, a man suffering from depression, and is arguably the breakout star from the show.
From his music career to his first big television show, here are five fast facts about Romany Malco of A Million Little Things.
In the Beginning
Malco was born in Brooklyn, New York, but his family is from Trinidad and Tobago (with extended relatives in Venezuela). They relocated to Baytown, Texas when he was a young boy. After graduating high school, he decided to move out to Los Angeles.
Rap Star
He formed a rap group called R.M.G. and when he moved to Los Angeles, they signed a deal with Virgin Records in 1991. However, they decided to change the name of their group to College Boyz. Their song, Victim of the Ghetto, went to #2 on the rap charts in 1992.
Grammy Drama
Despite writing the rap on Grammy-award winning song “Opposites Attract” with Paula Abdul, Malco didn’t perform it. However, he frequently gets credited with it, despite the fact Derrick “Delite” Stevens recorded the duet. Reportedly, he asked Abdul about it and she admitted telling people that because she thought it made a better story.
First Big Role
Malco’s first big role was on the television show Weeds. He played Conrad Shepard and was a series regular from Season 1 through Season 3. He then returned as a guest star in Season 8.
Award-Nominated
Malco was nominated for two MTV Movie Awards thanks to his ensemble performance in the movie The 40-Year-Old Virgin. He was also nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2006 for his work on Weeds.
