Season 3 of The Handmaid’s Tale has been a rollercoaster of emotions and storylines. While we’re learning more about some characters and their motivations, like Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd), other characters have simply been cast aside.
As we’re nearing the last few episodes of the season, there are some major questions we need to have answered before it’s all said and done. From understanding Nick’s (Max Minghella) current situation to learning more about Mrs. Lawrence’s (Julie Dretzin) past, here are the five biggest questions we have.
5. Is Serena Going To Pick A Side?
Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) has flip-flopped so many times over the course of the past three seasons, we really don’t know where she stands anymore. Sometimes she’s on June’s (Elisabeth Moss) side, other times she’s 100% against her.
While the back-and-forth has been interesting up until a point, it’s time for Serena to truly pick a side and stick with it. If she’s going to be bad, she needs to stay bad, and if she’s going to be good, she needs to stay good. We can only take so much more of this!
4. What Happened To Mrs. Lawrence?
It’s clear Mrs. Lawrence is suffering from some sort of mental illness, but we want to know what happened to her. Commander Lawrence (Bradley Whitford) is adamant about keeping her inside and away from people, but we don’t know why. Did she witness something she shouldn’t have? Did she suffer a trauma? We need backstory.
3. Where’s Hannah?
Poor June, Hannah just keeps slipping through her fingers. Because June decided to go visit Hannah’s school unexpectedly, Hannah’s family was forced to move out of Gilead for protection. Now June has no idea where her daughter is and may never be able to find her again.
2. Good Or Bad?
Nick’s been on June’s side and has helped her get out of sticky situations, which is why we were all so shocked to find out he was a soldier in the Crusade. While that doesn’t look good, this revelation doesn’t necessarily mean he’s bad. Maybe he’s undercover for the resistance? Either way, Nick’s been MIA this entire season. What’s going on?
1. How’s June Still Alive?
While seemingly every other Handmaid or Martha gets punished for doing something wrong, June is impenetrable. She has pushed everyone’s limits so far — including Aunt Lydia’s — and somehow is still alive. How many more people can she threaten before she gets killed? June is pushing her luck. How long until that luck runs out?
