DWTS’ Kaitlyn Bristowe Says The Bachelorette Needs To ‘Evolve’

As someone who was a lead on The Bachelorette, Kaitlyn Bristowe, currently on a quest for mirror ball glory on Dancing With the Stars, is looking forward to Thursday night’s episode to see if the buzz about current lead Clare Crawley is true or not.

There are reports that Crawley is on her way out and Tayshia Adams is on her way in as the new The Bachelorette. In an ABC promo, host Chris Harrison told Crawley that she “blew up” the show. Entertainment Hub spoke to Bristowe after this week’s live broadcast of DWTS to get her thoughts on the matter.

“[Clare] didn’t ‘break’ it — she blew it up!” Bristowe told reporters. “Chris Harrison said, ‘Congratulations you blew up The Bachelorette.’”

However, viewers aren’t going to know exactly how or if this has been accomplished until they tune in. “Nothing has been confirmed,” notes Bristowe. “It’s actually so funny. I’m in a group chat with all the [past] Bachelorettes and we talk to Clare all the time. Part of your contract [is that] you’re under certain [restrictions]…she can’t tell us much, but all we know is this could happen…does she end her Bachelorette season? Does Tayshia come in?”

While Bristowe is in touch with The Bachelorette insiders, she says she has not received any firm confirmation as to what happens. “I don’t know anything,” she shrugs. “All I know is [Clare] seems very happy and all I know is the teasers make it look like Tayshia is coming in.”

Bristowe’s comments prompted Chigventsev to look up from his phone during the interview (the devoted dad was checking in on his newborn son…awww). “There’s another Bachelorette coming onto the show?” the pro dancer asked. “We think so,” Bristowe responded. “We think so.”

There’s a bit of irony going in that DWTS is getting back to basics this season with the show’s dances focusing on just the dancing duos — and none of the extras that were added to routines over the years — but The Bachelorette is shaking things up like never before!

Bristowe, however, feels that adding change to the dating reality series is a good thing. “The show always does well, but every season it seems like it’s the same format,” she says. “It’s the same thing. It’s predictable. We all know what’s going to happen.

“So, to shake things up and have it be unpredictable and different, I think, is great,” she adds. “The show needs to evolve whether that means having more black leads or whether that means more talk of politics or religion — things that actually matter in a marriage. The show needs to evolve in that way if they’re going to keep up with their audience, so if that means that they’re going to switch things up in this way…I think it’s important to evolve with the times.”

This week, The Bachelorette airs Thursday, November 5 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. The show returns to its regular time slot next week on November 10, Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC. Dancing With the Stars airs weekdays on ABC on Mondays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
