Dwayne Johnson Was ‘First Choice’ To Host Oscars!

Forget Kevin Hart, it turns out Dwayne Johnson was the Academy’s first choice to host the 2019 Oscars.

The Academy Awards, which is happening in just a couple of weeks, is going to move forward without a host this year.

But, according to The Rock, the Academy actually asked him to lead the show a while back, but he just couldn’t make it work.

After seeing a tweet championing him to be the host next year, the 46-year-old revealed he tried to make it happen.

“I was their first choice to host this year, and my goal was to make it the most fun and entertaining Oscars ever,” he tweeted on Wednesday, February 6.

“We all tried hard, but couldn’t make it work since I’m shooting Jumanji. Academy and I were super bummed but maybe one day down the road.”

Dwayne even opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about how it all went down.

“Yeah, well, they actually asked me to host. I was so excited to get that call, and I didn’t anticipate it,” he shared.

“We didn’t campaign for it, but it came and I was over the moon and one of those calls where I said, ‘I’m going to have to call you back.’ I just paused in my silence and was, like, ‘Wow, thank you so much,’ and then immediately my brain started going, ‘We’ll do this kind of number and that.’”

He continued, “I had this whole idea about this massive number, and I was going to sing and I was going to bring in this person to sing, this person from the audience, and … oh, my god. And they were excited, but finally I had to pass.”
