Dancing With the Stars judge Derek Hough and his wife Hayley Erbert got a big scare late last year when Erbert underwent emergency surgery for a cranial hematoma. The great news is that Erbert continues to make a solid recovery and has returned to performing. Now, the couple is honoring the dedicated medical team that brought her through the crisis.

Hough and Erbert invited the doctors and nurses to a performance of Symphony of Dance, Hough’s dance show, which is currently on tour. “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the exceptional care and expertise you provided in saving Hayley’s life,” Hough and Ebert shared in a joint Instagram post.
“Your dedication and skill have not only given her a second chance but have touched us all deeply,” the couple posted. “A special thanks to Dr. Mai, whose surgical precision and attentiveness through both procedures were nothing short of remarkable. Sharing our show with you was a small token of our immense gratitude and a way to honor the meaningful work you do every day. We are forever thankful.”
Hough and Erbert were performing in Washington, D.C. in December when she became ill. One of Hough’s followers believes that that was no coincidence in the grand scheme of things.
“It’s not by accident that this operation happened at [MedStar Washington Hospital Center],” posted Tamar Jane (Glass) Sullivan. “It is a fabulous hospital. And God put you there to have your surgeon do the operation. Give God the glory because God‘s timing is always perfect. His plan is always perfect. This is nothing short of a miracle. I’m praying for other miracles for other people too…carry on in Joy and gratitude. Great shows in Hershey and Wilkes Barre. Thank you.”
