It’s with heavy hearts that Dancing with the Stars fans bid Scott Hoying goodbye in the competition as he and his pro dancer partner, Rylee Arnold, were voted off the show. But there’s been buzz online that the singer’s exit should have been expected since Pentatonix’s tour kicks off in a couple of weeks. But, according to TV Insider (via a video from Extra), viewers who reignited rumors that the eliminations are fixed due to Hoying’s exit should listen to the star’s interview, which debunks that argument.

Key Takeaways

  • Why Scott Hoying exited DWTS.
  • What the singer planned to do if he was still in the competition when the Pentatonix tour started.

The Real Reason Hoying Was Eliminated

It all came down to scores. Hoying and Arnold’s performances have lit up the DWTS ballroom, but they weren’t the leaders of the pack. The combined 58 out of 80 points between their Dedication and Wicked Night routines left them second-to-last in the competition. While that’s not a deciding factor on a series that relies heavily on the at-home audience’s vote, it wasn’t a good place to be either. Unfortunately, for Hoying, it landed him at the bottom and then completely out of the running for the Len Goodman mirror ball.

However, speculation that the singer’s exit is due to his beloved a cappella group’s Christmas in the City Tour is understandable. Their first tour stop is Saturday, November 8, in West Valley City, Utah. This would have left Hoying with only one more week on DWTS before his schedule got tight. But he shared with Extra that he had plans to take on double duty if he remained in the competition.

Hoying told the outlet, “Pentatonix is going on tour in two weeks. I was going to do both at the same time, which I have been stressing about and losing sleep over. So the silver lining is I can dive into that.”

From the sound of his interview, the singer had fully seen himself and his new bestie, Arnold, going the distance. He’d been asking fans to get him to Wicked Night, but admits he should have been telling them to push him and his partner all the way to the end. That certainly doesn’t sound like a star who was ready to tap out after reaching the part of the competition he was most excited for. (DWTS season 34 is all about friendship)

Fans will be able to catch Hoying on stage with the rest of Pentatonix as the group tours the US through December 22, before starting their European tour in April 2026.
