Cheryl Burke hopes DWTS will follow through on these requests.
Cheryl Burke hasn’t been on Dancing with the Stars since November 2022, but she continues to mention the show. She uses her platform to talk about the current seasons. Now that Season 33 has wrapped, she wants to see these changes being made.
On a recent episode of Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans, Cheryl answered fans’ burning questions. While her podcast attracted a massive DWTS fanbase, some feel Cheryl speaks too negatively about the show that gave her a household name. In the latest episode, she shared that the show should return to its roots. She would like to see judges with formal dance training.
The show has changed judges over the years. The current lineup includes Bruno Tonioli, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Derek Hough. However, Cheryl would like to see judges with formal dancing training, like the late Len Goodman.
“They have to be able to back up whatever they say,” Cheryl explained. “If you’re just saying things because you know it’s the right terminology, and you can’t explain yourself as to why it should be a certain way, then it’s kind of hard. Unless they get judges that have more ballroom experience than, you know, some of the current ones that are seated there as of last season.”

Cheryl wants DWTS to return to its older format, which introduced viewers to the world of ballroom dancing. If the show doesn’t change the current judging panel, Cheryl wants the current crop to return to school. She advised all three judges to get their “adjudicator’s exam.”
“I think that’s important, and why wouldn’t you wanna do that? After all these years, if you weren’t as familiar with the genre, why don’t you familiarize yourself with it? Or maybe they have, I don’t know,” Cheryl explained.
