The Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) ballroom bewitched in glittery shades of blue and sparkling blasts of light as Lindsey Stirling and Mark Ballas presented their charming foxtrot during Disney week.
Los Angeles choreographer William (Bill) Brown, who has no relationship to the ABC show, was asked by SoapHub to critique the performance, done to the familiar strains of When You Wish Upon A Star from Pinocchio.
Brown, who owns the popular Studio A Dance at Hyperion Arts in Silver Lake, was impressed by the dream-like set and the sweet piano accompaniment from none other than Mickey Mouse himself.
However, this professional dancer wasn’t thrilled with the beginning of the piece. He said, “The dance got off to a rough start. Lindsay’s adagio hardly matched the grace of the piano or her partner.
He continued, “This was especially apparent during the poise-less transition of her arms between movements.”
Bill felt the accomplished YouTube star was “trying too hard to have fun–or to show that she was having fun. [She] lost sight of the flow.”
That said, Brown felt “she excelled in their foxtrot glide across the floor, probably because her guard was down, allowing Ballas to call the shots.”
Later in the routine when Lindsey was “spinning in and out from Mark” this dance expert remarked, “I found it miraculous they pulled off those moves because, by the look on her face, you’d have thought she didn’t know where she was heading next.”
William Brown finished his review by saying, “The ending was sweetly staged [which included] a pose on the piano with Mickey, but the timing of the movement to the last note seemed off.”
So did the Dancing with the Stars judges agree with Brown? The combined scores, which totaled 28 out of a possible 30, from Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli earned this partnership third place on this week’s leaderboard. Not bad. Not bad at all.
Dancing with the Stars airs on Mondays at 8 p.m., PT on ABC.
