Remembering Shannen Doherty
Finola Hughes
GH’s Finola Hughes (Anna Devane) recurred on Charmed as Doherty’s TV mom, Patty Halliwell. Hughes paid tribute to her former co-star on Instagram: “Beautiful Shannen,” she wrote. “What a warrior. Fierce talent, passionate actor, friend, advocate. She fought. My heart goes out to her family, her beloved mama, her doggy, her friends who loved her equally fiercely as she loved them. God, I’m sorry for this loss…. Rest in peace Shannen 💕 🕊️”
Rose McGowan, who joined Charmed after Doherty left the supernatural series, replied to Hughes’s post. “Such a warrior,” McGowan commented. “Such a fighter to the last, the epitome of keep going no matter what I’m visualizing every message about her today as a wreath of flowers lovingly left at her feet 💔🎭”
Ted King
GH alum and current B&B star Ted King played Inspector Andy Trudeau from 1998 – 2005. He said this about the actress who played his former TV girlfriend, Prue Halliwell: “We created a special television couple for the ages. My heart goes out to your family. Rest in peace Shannen, rest in peace. #shannendoherty #andyandprue #charmed”
King’s former GH co-star Tamara Braun replied to his post saying, “Oh Ted, I’m so sorry. 🕊️”
Sarah Michelle Gellar
Sarah Michelle Gellar and Shannen Doherty were friends for 30 years when Doherty passed away. The actresses were iconic female forces of the ’90s and beyond. The AMC alum posted a heartbreaking message to her longtime friend along with several photos of the duo. “How do you possibly find the right words to sum up 30 years of friendship? I keep reminding myself it only hurts this much because, there was so much love. Thank you, for all your kind words and support. I love all the messages about how [Shannen Doherty] was important to you. So let’s honor her. More than anything, Shan loves animals, especially dogs. In her memory let’s support our favorite animal charities. Whether that’s donating money , stopping by your local shelter and just offering cuddles and walks to animals housed there or even just tagging them in the comments so other people can learn about their work. I know that would make our girl happy (and illicit that deep throaty laugh we all loved) 💔 💔💔”
Singer, songwriter, and actress Demi Lovato replied to Gellar’s message of love, saying, “So sorry for your loss 😢.”
Doherty died on Saturday, July 13, after a long battle with breast cancer.
