Law & Order: SVU fans are setting their DVRs now! After it was announced that Christopher Meloni would be returning to NBC as Elliot Stabler, his SVU character, in a new series, now comes the news that he’ll be appearing in the Law & Order: SVU season premiere!
Warren Leight, Law & Order: SVU’s executive producer, revealed in Squadroom, the show’s podcast, that Meloni would be appearing in the Season 22 premiere of Law & Order: SVU.
As previously reported, Meloni will be headlining his own new series on NBC within the SVU universe. The actor was an original cast member and left the show in 2011 after Stabler shot a young witness who was threatening to kill someone. Ever since then, fans have longed for an Elliot and Olivia reunion and now, it appears they’ll be finally getting one!
Since exiting SVU, Meloni has worked non-stop on such series as True Blood, Surviving Jack, Happy!, The Handmaid’s Tale, Underground, Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Summer, Man of Steel, and many more series and films. But all the while, SVU fans have hoped for a reunion with Hargitay’s now-in-charge Olivia Benson.
As for Hargitay, Entertainment Hub recently reported that she was fostering two dogs. Now, the Emmy-winner has confirmed on her Instagram account that one of the pups will be sticking around full time!
“Welcome to the family!” Hargitay posted. “Grindelwald (not sure the names gonna stick- we will keep you posted) is officially a Hargitay-Hermann. 🐾 His brother was adopted by one of [our daughter] Amaya’s besties & we can’t wait for the post quarantine puppy play dates. #ThePowerofZoom #FosterFail #AllinTheFamily #MagicalFamily #BabyWizard #PuppyWizard #PuppyLove #HargiPuppy #HarryPotter #AdoptDontShop.”
Meloni’s new series has an initial 13-episode order. Dick Wolf, who created the Law & Order brand and the Chicago-themed series on NBC (Chicago P.D. et. al.), will executive produce the show along with Arthur W. Forney and Peter Jankowski. Law & Order: SVU was created by Wolf. It stars Hargitay as Olivia Benson, Ice-T as Odafin “Fin” Tutuola, Kelli Giddish as Amanda Rollins. The show’s regular time-slot is Thursdays at 10 p.m. on NBC.
