Elliot Stabler’s triumphant return to the Law & Order universe via a spinoff series subtitled Organized Crime is soon to be realized…and actors Chris Meloni and Mariska Hargitay have the photographs to prove it!
Nearly two months after Law & Order: SVU showrunner Warren Leight revealed that Meloni would be making a guest appearance on the much-beloved procedural, the actor took to his Instagram to reveal that production on the long-gestating Elliot Stabler-centric spinoff is well and truly underway.
The post, which featured Meloni cheekily poking his head outside a door tagged with the Law & Order: Organized Crime logo, included the promise that “we workin on it.”
Hargitay likewise took to the social media site to share a trio of photographs which reveal that she, and by extension, the fictitious Olivia Benson, will be joining Meloni on the new series – at least for an episode or two.
Two of Hargitay’s snaps show chairs emblazoned with the names of her and Meloni’s characters as well as ones bearing the new show’s logo. The other photo depicts her and Meloni standing in front of a sleek vehicle and what is clearly a cemetery.
The logline for Organized Crime revealed that Stabler, who retired from police work back in 2011, would be returning to the NYPD, “in the wake of a devastating personal loss,” though exact details have yet to emerge.
Might Mariska Hargitay’s behind-the-scenes shots offer just a hint of a spoiler? After all, if Stabler were to lose Kathy (his beloved wife of over 35 years) or one of his five children, he’d surely turn to his old partner for sympathy and support…even if he did neglect to share with her the news of his retirement.
Law & Order: SVU airs Thursdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes. Law & Order: Organized Crime hasn’t been given a timeslot as yet but Entertainment Hub will let you know as more information is revealed.
