The cast of The Love Boat is getting an honor that is exciting and new. Well, new for them at least!
Both the Love Boat cast and Princess Cruises, the cruise ship company that was the backdrop for the Aaron Spelling series, is receiving a Hollywood Walk of Fame Honorary Star Plaque.
Believe it or not, it was over 40 years ago that The Love Boat premiered. As viewers recall, several guest characters would board the cruise ship where they’d meet Captain Merrill Stubing (Gavin MacLeod), Dr. Adam Bricker (Bernie Kopell), bartender Issac Washington (Ted Lange), Ship’s Purser ‘Gopher’ Smith (Fred Grandy), and cruise director Julie McCoy (Lauren Tewes).
Later in the show’s run, viewers were introduced to Vicki, Merrill’s daughter, played by Jill Whelan.
Conflicts among the guest stars and the series regulars would be introduced and reached a resolution (most often, a happy one) by the end of each episode or occasional two-parter.
The Love Boat employed many actors during its lengthy run and was a showcase for many movie legends including Milton Berle, Mickey Rooney, Ethel Merman and Ginger Rogers. Other celebrities who appeared on the show include Tom Hanks and Florence Henderson. Charo was a frequent guest on the show.
“What an unexpected thrill for our cast to be honored with Princess Cruises on Hollywood Boulevard,” said MacLeod. “The Love Boat offered us many opportunities to see the world, create lifelong friendships and of course introduce the joys of cruising.”
The ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 10 in front of the Dolby Theatre on the fame Hollywood Boulevard.
