Blair Underwood Returns To Headline L.A. Law Continuation At ABC

Let’s hope the elevators’ safety certificates are up-to-date and on file: a continuation of the 1980s most celebrated legal series, L.A. Law, is in the works at ABC, and actor Blair Underwood is poised to reprise the role of Jonathan Rollins.

L.A. Law Continuation To Star Blair Underwood

According to Deadline, the potential sequel will once again focus on the McKenzie Brackman law firm which has, in the ensuing decades, evolved into an office that deals with, “only the most high profile, boundary-pushing and incendiary cases.”

The report also reveals that Underwood’s initially idealistic character will have changed into a more conservative figure and his stance on the issues of the day will be in direct contrast to the one held by his mentee, JJ Freeman, and the two will clash over how to best steer the firm in its push to, “effect political and legal change.”

Though Underwood is the only actor from the first series confirmed to appear in the new project, Deadline suggests that there is a strong possibility that other cast-members will make an appearance.

Among the most likely returnees are Corbin Bernsen (ex-Arnie Becker), Jimmy Smits (ex-Victor Sifuentes), Alan Rachins (ex-Douglas Brackman, Jr.), Susan Ruttan (Roxanne Melman), and Harry Hamlin (ex-Michael Kuzak)

L.A. Law 2.0 will be helmed by Marc Guggenheim, co-creator of the CW’s Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and writer Ubah Mohamed. Anthony Hemingway will direct and executive produce.

Also included amongst the behind-the-scenes players are Underwood, and TV director/producer Jesse Bochco, the son of the late Steven Bochco, creator of the original L.A. Law.

L.A. Law, first aired on NBC between 1986 and 1994, and it was (seemingly) concluded with a reunion film in 2002. The stories concerned the libidinous litigators of the then-named McKenzie, Brackman, Chaney, and Kuzak firm and the cases that they argued.

Though the series was known for confronting hot-button and taboo issues, it is primarily remembered for the extracurricular activities and histrionic situations in which the staffers found themselves embroiled.

Among L.A. Law’s most popular moments are Michael Kuzak’s frantic attempt to interrupt his lover’s wedding to another while dressed in a gorilla suit, and the fatal plunge taken by super-bitch Rosalind Shay’s down an empty elevator shaft!
