Bill and Ted are officially coming back! Both Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, who starred in 1989’s Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and 1991’s Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, will be reprising their roles for a third movie called Bill & Ted Face the Music.
The film, which has been in the works for many years, will be written by Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon and will be directed by Dean Parisot.
It is set to be released on August 21, 2020.
“We want to say thank you to the fans,” Reeves said in a video alongside Winter.
“It’s all because of you guys. We owe you a huge debt of gratitude so we wanted to say thank you,” Winter said.
According to a press release, the film will be about the characters of Bill and Ted getting involved in a new adventure.
“Yet to fulfill their rock ’n’ roll destiny, the now middle-aged best friends set out on a new adventure, when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it and bring harmony to the universe,” the press release says.
“Along the way, they will be helped by their families, old friends and a few music legends.”
Winter opened up about the possibility of a third movie back in 2007 to Yahoo!
“We’re really close. We’re just about there. In Hollywood parlance, [that] means we’ll either be shooting soon, or it’s never going to happen,” he shared.
“It’s really been us driving the whole thing. Me and Keanu and [writers] Chris [Matheson] and Ed [Solomon]. So we’re producing it and we’re actively trying to get it made.”
He continued, “We’re not tired of it, but I think for our fans, we are eager to stop talking about and actually shoot the damn thing.”
