Big Little Lies’ Laura Dern Gets Stars To Make Good Deeds Contagious

To paraphrase Renata Klein, her Big Little Lies character, Laura Dern will NOT not be of help during these challenging times! The Oscar-winning actress and her daughter, Jaya Harper, recently took to social media to help launch an initiative that they hope will inspire people.

Laura Dern Calls On Stars To Help

“We want to know what else we can do to help put a smile on someone’s face,” Dern said. “Bake cookies for relatives, write a thoughtful note, leaving flowers or an elderly neighbor…whatever it is. Let’s make sure we all stay safe and follow CDC (Center for Disease Control) guidelines.”

Jaya explained that if folks tag #allgooddeeds2020 and @allgooddeeds2020 on their social media accounts with stories and pictures of their good deeds, she and her mother can re-post the kindness. “I’m so glad she said that part [about tagging],” said a chuckling Dern, “because I have no idea how to speak that language.”

Dern kicked things off by putting together, with her daughter’s help, essential care packages for the Los Angeles Women’s Center. “[T]hey are the only organization in L.A. that exclusively serves women who are experiencing homelessness or women who have been formerly homeless to serve and help them rebuild…”

Some of Dern’s celebrity pals have accepted the challenge to do good deeds. Daytime Emmy, Primetime Emmy, and Oscar-winning actress Julianne Moore (ex-Frannie/Sabrina, As the World Turns; Game Change; Still Alice) promoted @invisiblehandsdeliver, a volunteer group to bring groceries to people in high-risk demographics.

Robin Wright (ex-Kelly, Santa Barbara; House of Cards) kept her act simple, but meaningful by showing herself planting to help rebuild the environment. Also, actor/rapper Common (Selma; Suicide Squad) put together bags of groceries for a neighbor. Stylist/educator Vernon François and his daughter put together shampoo and conditioning products together for the Good Shepherd Shelter in Los Angeles, which aids women and children who are victims of domestic abuse.

Inspired by Dern’s words? If and when you commit your own good deed, make sure to hashtag on social media #allgooddeeds2020 and @allgooddeeds2020. Check out the full posts from Dern and her pals below.
