Despite suffering miscarriages before, former Bachelor star Jamie Otis was hopeful about her recent pregnancy just weeks before finding out she lost her baby.
The couple, who announced they suffered another miscarriage last week, said they didn’t hear their baby’s heartbeat during the first ultrasound.
“The heartbeat starts around, like, six or seven weeks where it’s actually audible. Honestly, more like seven but sometimes it can be as early as like … It all depends on when you truly conceive,” she told Us Weekly on January 1, less than two weeks before her miscarriage.
“That’s why they wait a little longer to have the first ultrasound so that there are no … there’s nothing to worry about. Unless there’s genuinely something to worry about.”
She continued, “My husband obviously cried, which was interesting. He doesn’t usually get very emotional, but I’m still hopeful that our pregnancy is fine. We’re still hopeful that … Obviously I don’t really know what to think. … We’re obviously hopeful.”
Despite being hopeful, Jamie revealed on Instagram on Friday, January 11, that they had lost their baby.
“I’m devastated. We’ve had a ‘failed miscarriage.’ Our baby formed and there was an amniotic sac, but while the amniotic sac continued to grow the baby stopped at some point,” she wrote.
“I can’t thank you all enough for all the love, support, prayers, and encouragement you’ve sent us. You have no idea how much that has helped both @doughehner & I.”
She continued, “You guys are the most amazing community of women & men here on instagram & social media and I hope you know how much we appreciate you all.”
We are so sorry to hear about your loss, Jamie and Doug! We are thinking of you two during this very tough time.
