Colton Underwood knows he’s on a silly reality show, but one recent conversation definitely transcended The Bachelor itself.
As fans of the show know, contestant Caelynn Miller-Keyes told Colton about being raped while she was in college.
Not only was Caelynn open and honest about her experience, she certainly made viewers of the show who have been through trauma feel less alone.
Colton recently told The Hollywood Reporter that because of the subject matter, the cameras and producers gave each of them their space to have their discussion.
“At that point, the cameras do sort of go away. They respected our space and privacy,” he shared.
“We were able to have our conversation and not be surrounded by audio mixers and producers and cameras. I can’t say enough good things about how it was handled.”
He continued, “The fact that they left that as raw and real as possible was super important. It is such a sensitive conversation that it deserves to be left as real as it was.”
During the conversation, Colton alluded to his past relationship with Aly Raisman, who herself is a sexual abuse survivor.
“The reason I did not speak on anybody’s name is because they did not sign up for this show, I did,” Colton explained.
“And out of respect for her and what she’s doing with her platform and how powerful her voice is, the last thing that I want to be is a distraction.”
The Bachelor is often criticized for being all about the drama, but this conversation between Colton and Caelynn was profound and heartfelt.
Not only was it cathartic for the pair, but it was also one of the only times in the show’s history where it had something meaningful to say about trauma.
