In recent years, TV viewers have seen revivals of Roseanne, Dallas, and Full House. Now, new episodes of Who’s The Boss, the ABC sitcom that starred Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano, are being developed.
The series, which debuted in 1984, was a spin on traditional sitcoms in that the female lead, Angela (Judith Light), a two-time Daytime Emmy-winner for her role as Karen on One Life to Live, worked in an office while male lead Tony (Tony Danza) worked as her housekeeper. Rounding out the cast were Tony’s daughter Samantha (Alyssa Milano), Angela’s son Jonathan (Danny Pintauro), and mother Mona (the late Katherine Helmond).
“I AM SO EXCITED!” Milano posted on Twitter. “#WhosTheBoss is coming back!!! I’ve wanted to share this for so long and now I can! We feel the time is right to tell the story of where these amazing characters are today. Can’t wait to share their stories with you. So happy.”
According to Deadline, which broke the news, the revival is set to star Danza and Milano. They will reprise their roles. The series, set to take place 30 years after the original one ended, has Samantha, living as a single mother in the house that the original series was set in and the show will be centered around Tony and Sam’s relationship.
In the original series, Tony and Angela did not get married, but Mona moved away, leading Tony to move into her garage apartment, so he and Angela were still close to one another. Reportedly, Light and Pintauro support the revival and may partake in the show in some capacity. Helmond passed away in 2019. The original Who’s The Boss ran on ABC from 1984-1992. During the course of its run, the sitcom averaged over 33 million viewers. The show was nominated for 10 Emmys and five Golden Globes.
Norman Lear (One Day at a Time; All in the Family) and his producing partner, Brent Miller, of ACT III productions and Dan Farah of Farah Films, will serve as executive producers. Danza and Milano will also serve as executive producers.
