Actress Kelly Preston, known for her roles in movies like Jerry Maguire, SpaceCamp, For the Love of The Game, Battlefield Earth, and so many others, has died at the age of 57.

Kelly Preston Passes Away

People.com reported the sad news about the star and wife of fellow actor John Travolta. “On the morning of July 12, 2020, Kelly Preston, adored wife and mother, passed away following a two-year battle with breast cancer,” a family representative told the site exclusively.

“Choosing to keep her fight private, she had been undergoing medical treatment for some time, supported by her closest family and friends,” the family rep says. “She was a bright, beautiful and loving soul who cared deeply about others and who brought life to everything she touched. Her family asks for your understanding of their need for privacy at this time.”

Preston was born on October 13, 1962, in Honolulu, Hawaii as Kelly Kamalelehua Smith. She attended the University of Southern California where she studied acting and got her first role in 1980 as a guest star on the original Hawaii Five-O. Her next role was in 1982 when she appeared as Gillian McCandless in the pilot episode of the soap opera Capitol.

Several guest roles followed but the TV movie For Love and Honor, where she played Mary Lee, was a big break that led to her playing the same role on the TV series during the 1983-84 season. Around that time, she also had a role in the Stephen King film, Christine, but it was her role in the 1985 film Mischief that may feel was her big break.

That same year, she was in Secret Admirer with another young up-and-comer, Lori Loughlin, playing the spoiler in a romance with C. Thomas Howell. Roles in SpaceCamp and Twins soon followed, along with plenty of other roles in both films and TV movies.

On the personal side, she was briefly married to Kevin Gage in the mid-1980s and lived with Charlie Sheen after that but it was Travolta, whom she married on September 12, 1991, that she would spend the rest of her life with and raise their three kids — Jett, Ella, and Benjamin. In 2009, they lost their son Jett, who had Kawasaki’s Syndrome and died of a seizure caused by the disease.

Her last post on Instagram was three weeks ago — a beautiful picture of their family wishing Travolta a happy Father’s Day in which she wrote, “Happy Father’s Day to the best one I know, we love you.” The post is already being used by her friends to say goodbye. “Sweetest you. You are missed on this earth already,” wrote Selma Blair.

Entertainment Hub sends condolences to Kelly Preston’s family, friends, and fans during this difficult time.
